Barbara Sager

“If you can breathe, you can do yoga,” as Sri Krishnamacharya said, epitomizes Barbara’s teaching philosophy. This view stems from her extensive training in the lineage of Sri Krishnamacharya. Experienced, certified and well trained, she is focused on making this practice available to all, and she has the skill to tailor the practice to each individual. She started practicing in 1984 and began teaching in 2001. Barbara has since studied yoga therapeutics extensively with JJ Gormley, in the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar, becoming a certified yoga therapist (1200-hour program) in 2013. In 2017 she earned the designation C-IAYT from the International Association of Yoga Therapists.  She also is E-RYT500 certified.  Her studies are ongoing and include a 2-week internship at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai, India in December 2014. In addition to general mixed level classes, since 2002 Barbara has been teaching yoga to people with mobility and balance concerns including those dealing with: Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, arthritis, brain injuries, cancer, structural issues (e.g., shoulder, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, spine, etc.). Breath awareness is an integral part of all classes, as is moving toward an overall body awareness - learning to listen to the "teacher within" that we each have. She encourages students to maintain their sense of humor and develop their own personal expression of yoga poses while working in a comfortable, safe environment.

Gentle yoga is designed to help you build strength and flexibility in your spine and find greater ease through your hips and shoulders. You will learn how to improve balance, increase energy and soothe stress by using moderate movement, simple breath practices and meditation. Appropriate for all levels of experience.
